The Feminine Mystique?

Not only African Americans but also women wanted to expand the opportunities they had in their life. The Feminine Mystique was a book by Betty Friedan, which was first published in 1963.  In the book she questioned the role of women who were put by society in a position where they were supposed to be financially, intellectually and emotionally dependent on their husbands and who feel a certain worthlessness because of that. The book is often said to be the spark to a second feminist movement.
